For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:14-21 (NRSV)
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As Pastors, we want to keep in touch with you all at this challenging time as best we can and one way is to send out some emailed prayers/reflections during the week as well as our Live-streamed service on Sundays. This prayer of Paul’s has been sent round by the Baptist Union to help us focus our prayers.
‘I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.’
These words seem particularly appropriate for us at this time when many of us will be feeling anxious and helpless and uncertain – we can join each other in praying for strength in our inner being through His Spirit. And we are also reminded, at a time, when we cannot come together in church to meet, which is normally such an important part of our spiritual life – that Christ does not dwell in buildings but in our hearts through faith. Let's use the extra time we may have to get deeper into the Word and prayer and pray that Christ gets deeper into us.
With love in Christ
