Founding and Early Years

Frampton Park Baptist Church, originally founded on the 13th of May, 1798, began with eight devoted believers gathering in a Meeting  House on what was then known as Shore Place, near Shore Road in Hackney. The inaugural sermon, delivered by the first Pastor, John Rance, was based on Ephesians 2:22, reflecting the hope that this small congregation would grow to significantly impact the community. Pastor Rance, in his diary, expressed a heartfelt desire that this new Baptist church, the first in Hackney, would flourish to “show forth His praise.”

Growth and Development
Over the years, the church witnessed substantial growth and moved to its current location in 1956. This relocation marked a new chapter in our history, providing a foundation for expanded outreach and deeper community integration.

Modern Leadership and Community Integration
In 2015, we embraced a new home with a modern building that reflected our evolving needs and growth. The leadership style within the church also transformed approximately nine years ago. Moving away from the traditional model of appointing an external, accredited Baptist minister, we fostered a core leadership team from within our congregation. This team comprised two part-time bi-vocational Co-Pastors, one paid and one unpaid, and a full-time Church Manager. This model has allowed for more flexible and relatable leadership, resonating well with our diverse community.

Recent Changes and Future Outlook
Recently, we have entered a period of transition with the resignation of our paid Co-Pastor, prompting a search for new pastoral leadership to guide us forward. This change is seen as an opportunity to deepen our roots in the teachings of Christ while embracing the innovative spirit of our congregation.

Community and Outreach
Throughout its history, Frampton Park Baptist Church has been deeply committed to serving the local community of Hackney and the broader Frampton Park Estate. Our church is a hub of vibrant activity, hosting senior clubs, mother and toddler groups, and engaging in street evangelism. We also offer our space for community meetings and activities, underscoring our role as a cornerstone of local engagement.

Affiliations and Broader Impact
Proudly affiliated with the London Baptist Association, the Baptist Union of Great Britain, and the Evangelical Alliance, our church continues to build on the legacy of our founders. Inspired by our early history and the dynamic leadership of figures like Pastor John Rance, we remain dedicated to being a light in Hackney, contributing to the spiritual life and wellbeing of our community.

As we look to the future, Frampton Park Baptist Church remains committed to its founding principles of faith, community service, and spiritual growth. We invite you to join us on this journey as we continue to serve and celebrate in the spirit of Christ.
